Character Name: Kiivar
Gender: Male
Age: 12 years
Species: Swift Fox
Vinei/Cuulu: Vinei
Status: Loner, not mated
Physical Description:
Like most Vinei, Kiivar’s pelt still retains normal colors – oranges, browns, greys and whites, although most should not appear together all at once. Such is the effect of Atheron. He is small, weighing in at 4 pounds and coming in at 2.5 feet long. His tail can easily equal half his body length at 15 inches. Such small creatures make easy prey for Atheron’s wilds. In this, Kiivar is no exception. Quite a collection of scars pucker his skin on back, haunches and forelegs. Since most often have the same, these are more a compilation of stories, rather than something to be used for intimidation. His small stature allows him to slip out of almost any situation, but he is completely useless in a battle except as a distraction. It is quite rare to see his pelt in anything but a matted state. However, Kii takes bodily odor very seriously and while he may seem dirty and unkempt, he would never stoop so low as to smell.
Personality:
Like most foxes, Kiivar lives to create trouble. There is nothing he likes more than to pull a trick. The more fooled, the greater the joke. For this characteristic, many would see him as foul or evil. When in actuality, he follows his own moral compass. Some may call this chaotic evil, however he has been known to occasionally help another with nothing in return. Due to his very nature, Kiivar prefers to follow Dineaer over all other Iola. To him, it is just another way to torment all those other blathering, snooty Vinei. As can be seen, Kii has no love lost for most other Vinei. He finds them to be completely intolerable. While he believes in the might of his Iola, most other Vinei just take the whole religious idea to another level.
One strange quirk, as mentioned earlier, is his desire to smell good at all times. This applies even when traveling through a swamp or equally rank area. To this end, he will avoid carrion at all costs. Anything that sticks to him also greatly upsets him, be it as small as a burr or larger like a Wolftrap. If something large and predatory is stuck, he doesn't react as if he were in danger. Instead, his reaction tends to be more of a general freak out. There's plenty of running around, swearing and shivering. One can only imagine what would happen if he ran into a spider's web. In extreme cases, he may turn around in anger, although this rarely lasts long.
While not exactly afraid of anything, Kiivar knows when something is out of his league. When playing his tricks he may need to be reckless, but at all other times, he prefers to play it safe. Although cautious, Kiivar does not seek to join the company of others. He might be able to be persuaded to join a group, but generally this is not his way. He may do small jobs or favors as an independent contractor however.
When asked about his stance on the Cuulu, Kii has no answer. He is still figuring this out for himself.
History:
Before the Vinei had discovered Atheron, his family lived only in pairs as it was always done. However, once the dangers of the land became clear, his family took to living with other fox families. This was not enough and eventually, his family evolved into a larger group filled with many different canine species. Kiivar was born just a few years before the Return. By the time the Cuulu had returned in full, he had matured fully. His family group was one the first to try co-existing with the Cuulu. At first, it worked. However, the smaller foxes had a hard time coping with the manifestations of an undeveloped element. Since they were so small even something as simple as a novice spell could cause great harm.
Kiivar was gently playing with his younger sister of three months, Yunael, when a year old wolf pup, Iten, joined them. Kii knew this pup was Cuulu but he had not shown any signs. Due to this, he saw no harm in the other joining in the fun. Kii watched as a guardian would as the two playfully traded mock growls. A small "pop" sounded and out of nowhere, a flame appeared in Yunael's fur. Since fur is extremely flammable, in no time at all it was spreading. Yunael of course was still very young and knew little of these things. When Kiivar began to yip at her to roll, she did not understand. Fear overwhelmed her, locking her in place. Kiivar grabbed her, ignoring the heat and his own fear out of love, trying to forcibly extinguish the flames. Iten beside him was panicking. The more afraid Iten became, the stronger the flames became. Others ran to them, drawn by their cries. Teeth dug into Kiivar, dragging him away from Yuneal. By the time other Cuulu had arrived to the scene, it was too late. The burned flesh scent was heavy in the air. This was too much for Kii, who coughed, retched and emptied the contents of his stomach.
There was nothing a Cuulu healer could save. The Iola would not grant any Vinei the power to heal in order to "show the dangers of co-existing with Cuulu." Unfortunately, such events have not been uncommon since the Return. Soon after, haunted by images of his sister and the living Iten, Kiivar fled the area. For weeks anything stuck in his fur, caused him to jump, afraid some Cuulu magic had caught. While he no longer fears the magic, the fear of something caught in his fur has never gone away. To this day, he can still smell the scent of acrid, burned flesh.
